Chapter 7




As the months progress Fallia finds herself growing sad. She knows, when the baby comes, what she currently has with Neil will have to end. She can’t imagine only being his friend again. Even though Neil has not been able to stay any nights he has been at Fallia’s side every spare moment he can. Tears fill her eyes as she sits on the couch and watches Neil play with Volar. She knows he is the perfect man for her and would be a wonderful father for her children. Fallia also knows once the baby is born there is too much of a chance they can be caught, (due to her getting pregnant again), and she doesn't want to risk Neils life.




Neil really enjoys bonding with Volar and the toddler seems to love it too. Neil also realizes the birth of the baby means the end of him and Fallia being able to get by with their secret relationship. His heart is heavy, but he decides to savor what time they have left before he lets himself think of the rest.




Lathyrus warns Pauline to watch her step as she begs him not to make her take care of Owen anymore. Pauline screams at Lathyrus that she doesn’t care what he does to her and she’d rather die than continue to be his lab rat or watch her son suffer at his hands. Lathyrus informs her that Owen is his son too and that her death can be arranged. He locks her in the room as he exits and storms off. Finding out that Owen is Lathyrus’s son just makes her more depressed. She hates herself for not wanting to love her child but at the same time can’t stand to look at him.




Later in the day...

Lathyrus drags Pauline to the Cow Plant while making Karen hold Owen and watch. Before throwing Pauline into the plant he warns Karen that this can be her fate too if she isn’t careful. Karen sobs as she pulls Owen in closer to her and shuts her eyes. She can’t bear to watch as the Cow Plant devourers Pauline. By the time Neil arrives back to the lab Lathyrus has Karen and Owen tucked away in the basement. He tells Neil that Pauline couldn’t accept her child and chose to go back home to Earth. Neil’s heart dropped into his stomach, because he knows this can’t be true. Neil acts shocked but makes sure it’s nothing abnormal that will tip Lathyrus off about his true feelings.




One birth after another at the clinic causes more trouble than the last. All of the babies have been born mixed species and males. The parents are demanding answers; leaving Doc and Tosha with more to deal with than they even seen coming. They counsel each couple and remind them of why they came to Plutarian in the first place. After much time and effort Tosha and Doc were able to convince each couple to be happy that they have a child. They also encourage them to go to Lab X for answers.

Most of the couples have been lucky enough that their babies at least look like their species. This has helped them with accepting the children.

Luna and Triton have felt blessed to have a child from the minute they laid their hands on their son. Even though he would like some answers, Triton doesn’t care if it was his DNA that made the child, because he feels it takes more than DNA to be a father.




Ceres has had much support from her good friends, the Vatirian's, through out her pregnancy. She's one of the few people on the planet that expected to have a mixed species baby and she has had no trouble with accepting her son.

As the couples pour into Lab X demanding answers as to why their son’s are mixed species Lathyrus blames it all on lab mistakes made by Neil. He assures each couple that they will be compensated for their troubles and that Neil will not be allowed to work with the genetic testing anymore. Nobody is happy with the answers they received. They also doubt Lathyrus’s story, but are unsure what to do about it. Neil is unaware that Lathyrus is blaming him for all the mix ups.

To everyone’s shock and amazement Fallia not only has twins, but they are also both baby girls. She names them Zola and Zula. Within days of their birth, Lathyrus demands that she and the children move into Lab X. He sends Neil over to fetch them, claiming it's to protect the first females born to his race since the troubles began 20 years ago. Fallia has grown afraid of Lathyrus and his intentions. Neil holds Fallia for a long time to comfort her. He assures her that he will make sure she and the children are safe.
