Chapter 6




Neil is headed out to visit Doc when he see’s Fallia approaching the lab. Fallia doesn’t give Neil a chance to ask why she’s there. She begins to tell him how Lathyrus called her in for another set of tests and how she’s been dreading it all day. Neil tells her he is sorry she has to go through more tests, but that he will be free in the evening if she wants to hang out. They agree to meet at her house later.




The Aurumian couple is thrilled to finally be pregnant. They’ve been trying for years to conceive a baby. No one has been able to answer their questions about why they have not able to produce children, but at this point none of that really matters to them anymore.

Triton and Luna Lilacian have also just found out they are pregnant and they can’t wait to start shopping for the little tyke. Lathyrus was able to offer them a long technical explanation about the procedure he used on them to conceive, but they didn’t understand a word of it. Like many other couples on Plutarian, the answers are not important now that they are going to have a baby.




As the weeks pass Pauline worries more and more about the child growing inside of her. She’s always wanted kids, but not like this. Pauline isn’t sure what Lathyrus’s plans are for her child and it frightens her. She wants desperately to love the baby, but doesn’t know if she can afford to. Neil has his suspicions about this pregnancy but he knows to keep quiet about them.




Doc and Tosha have their hands full with all of the expecting mothers coming in for exams and also with preparing for what’s to come. Lathyrus believes the couple is there to work for him, so he has no fears about his test subjects being in their care.

Ceres Keptar is shocked to realize she is pregnant. She came to Plutarian to help by donating her DNA, but she didn’t realize they were leaving some in her during the appointment at Lab X. Ceres decides not to worry about what she can’t change and to concentrate on the fact that she is going to become a mother.

As the months pass the evidence of the pregnancies becomes more obvious around town. Everyone is so excited about the babies that no one stops to wonder why so many couples have been successful here on Plutarian.




Fallia calls Neil and asks him to come over. He can hear anxiousness in her voice and can’t seem to get to her fast enough. Fallia falls into his arms in tears when he arrives telling him she is pregnant. Neil is shocked and speechless, but he knows Lathyrus has to be behind it. Fallia explains how Lathyrus didn’t tell her he was implanting a baby within her, but before she can get another word out Neil kisses her.




They both want to be together so badly that they refuse to think about things clearly and end up in Fallia's room. When they finally do talk about it they decide this is their chance to be together. Even if it can’t be forever, at least they can say they know what it’s like to give in to their desire to be a couple. The next few months are filled with more happiness than either of them have ever known.




Pauline is the first to give birth. She has a son and names him Owen. Lathyrus can see she isn’t responding well to the baby and demands that she act happy about it around the others. She can’t force a smile onto her face when Neil comes to see Owen, and Lathyrus isn’t happy with her. Neil’s heart goes out to her but he doesn’t let on about noticing her obvious feelings.
