Chapter 3




Fallia shows up to give her DNA sample to Lathyrus just as ordered. She is a bit disappointed to see Neil isn’t at the lab, but she keeps that to herself. Lathyrus let her know that he looks down on her reasons for being on Plutarian. Fallia wants to tell him that she doesn’t care what he thinks, but she just smiles and nods. After Lathyrus gets his samples he tells Fallia that he’ll contact her when she needs to be seen again.




Lathyrus receives a call telling him his special order has arrived to Plutarian; two human women, Pauline and Karen. Lathyrus needs them for the testing the colony volunteers won't be willing to do. The ladies are still in a drug induced state when Lathyrus arrives to pick them up. By the time they reach Lab X Pauline and Karen are getting over the drugs effects. They are very angry and confused about what they are doing here. Lathyrus changes their mood a bit by introducing them to the Cow Plant and making it very clear that it loves to eat anyone who doesn’t obey.




Pauline and Karen are then taken to one of the labs where Lathyrus attaches monitoring bracelets to their wrists. He informs them that if they leave Lab X, or try to remove them, the bracelets will shock and kill them. Pauline protests and Lathyrus decides to make an example of her…




While Karen watches Pauline is shocked until she begs for no more. Lathyrus shocks her one more time just for good measure. Then he sits the ladies down and makes two more things very clear. The women are not to tell anyone they are here against their will, especially Neil. They also are not permitted to ever be alone with anyone and have to stay in the basement when not with Lathyrus. He promises them a trip to the Cow Plant if they ever break any of these rules.




Meanwhile back out in the field...
The next couple Neil goes to see are the Vatirian's. They don't have any child bearing problems that they know of and are just here to help in any way they can. The Vatirian's are very well known for spreading good will around the universe. This was a welcomed breath of fresh air for Neil after spending so much time with Lathyrus.

Next on Neil’s list are a Muhli couple and an Ionesis male. Neil finds them to be quite interesting. They are all from wealthy families and have come here to start businesses. The three of them tell Neil how thrilled they are to help start a civilization on Plutarian.

When Neil arrives to see a Lilacian couple he feels sorry for Trition. He just looks so lonely and bored. His wife Luna is chatting away to her friend Ceres Keptar. Neil was happy to see Ceres, because she is next on his list of interviews. Trition volunteered to be interviewed first so Neil fills him in on all the hot spots to go make friends at around town.

Neil takes his last interview, Zena Reptilian2, out to eat at The Flying Saucer. Zena just arrived to Plutarian and is still awaiting her housing assignment. She is willing to be a surrogate mother and has done this for many couples in the past.

By the time Neil returns from his field interviews the ladies are well under Lathyrus’s control. Neil is excited to finally meet other humans and wants to know all about planet Earth. The ladies seem more than happy to tell him everything he wants to know. Neil feels surreal and soaks it all in like a child.




Neil spends the next few days in a lab entering the genetic information he gathered from the field into the computer. He found himself day dreaming about Fallia and Earth more times than he should have been. This made the daunting task even harder to concentrate on. Just about the time Neil thought he was done Lathyrus walks in and drops ten more files of lab results onto his desk. Neil is beginning to wish he’d hired another secretary.
